Imagine digging into a rich bowl of warm stewed fruits accentuated with the tang of balsamic vinegar and freshness of basil, now, combine that with a buttery, crunchy crumble with a hint of ginger-y spice on top. Drooling yet? This mixed berry crumble is pure comfort in a dish!

Whipping up a mixed berry crumble is an incredibly quick and easy thing to do in the Revolve especially if you are using frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is both convenient and also ensures you get enough sauce in your crumble. The crumble topping, made with butter, flour, and a hint of sugar, is the perfect accompaniment to the berries.

What makes this recipe special is the use of a few unconventional ingredients that elevate the dish and make it truly memorable. The sweet, tangy flavour of balsamic vinegar works so well with wild berries and the hint of basil add intrigue to the combination. The other slightly unconventional ingredient is the ginger powder in the crumble. Try it out I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Mixed Berry Crumble Directions

The Mixed Berry Crumble Recipe below is made for the Revolve Pizza oven, but you can also make it by using a frying pan to cook the berries and an ovenproof dish to bake the crumble at 200 degrees Celsius (400F).

Step 1

Place your mixed berries on the deep dish side of the Revolve Cast Iron pan. Mix in with balsamic vinegar, basil leaves, and a touch of water.

Step 2

Cook in the Revolve at maximum heat for about 5 minutes or until the berries turn into a lush, sticky jam. Add a bit of water if your berries dry up while cooking.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and butter. Use your fingers in a rubbing motion until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Season with ginger powder.

Step 4

Once the berry base is ready, evenly spread the crumble topping over it. Seal the pan with its lid and pop it back into the Revolve Oven.

Step 5

Set it to a low heat and let the crumble bake for approximately 10 minutes. You're looking for a golden-brown crust that's perfectly crisp.

Step 6

Serve piping hot and pair with a chilled scoop of ice cream, fresh yogurt, or creamy custard. Alternatively, cool the crumble and accompany it with warm custard for a delightful contrast.

Make it your own!

The nice thing about a crumble is that you can use a wide variety of berries and fruits. Another classic is to use apples and you can replace the balsamic vinegar and basil with some cinnamon and brown sugar. You can also add oats in the crumble for a nice crunchy texture. Feeling naughty? Make it boozy! Calvados and apples, Sloe gin and berries, Walnut liqueur and pears. (Enjoy responsibly)
